Futsal Restarts - The Kick-in - Review of Restart Procedure

When the whole of the ball goes out of bounds over the sideline in a Futsal Game, a Kick-in is awarded to the opposing team. The Futsal Kick-in replaces the Soccer Throw-in Soccer.

Teams that instantly get the ball and restart the game often beat those opponents who are slow to move to defend a fast game restart.

FIFA's Laws of the Game of Futsal - Law 15 - The Kick-in
  • A goal may not be scored directly from a Kick-in.
  • The Kick-in must be taken within 4 seconds of the time the ball can be placed on the line for the Kick-in.
  • When the kick is taken all or part of both feet must be on or behind the sideline. If either entire foot is on the court at the time the kick is taken a Kick-in is awarded to the opposing team.
  • Opponents must be on the court and 5 meters (16.667 feet) away from the ball when the Kick-in is taken. If an opponent is closer and the attacking team gains an advantage no call is made. If the opponent is closer and the opposing team gains an advantage the whistle is blown, the opponent who is closer than 5 meters is cautioned and the Kick-in is retaken.
  • The Kick-in is taken where the ball goes out. The ball must be on the line or no father than 25 cm (10 inches) from the line

A Kick-in is also used to restart a Futsal game if the ball strikes any object above the Futsal Court. The Kick-in is taken by the opposing team from the nearest point on the nearest sideline to where the ball touched above the court.

Futsal Restarts - Kick-In Play #1 - In Slower Motion

In Kick-in Play 1 players start:
  • A2, the red left attacker, places the ball to take the Kick-in
  • A4, the red center attacker, moves close to A2 for a short Kick-in
  • A1, the red right attacker, moves to the top of the Penalty Arc
  • D3, the red defender, moves for long Kick-in in center of court

In Kick-in Play 1 players move:
  • A2 kicks ball in down sideline towards corner of court and then move to become their teams defender
  • A4 turn and makes run to attack center of goal
  • A1 runs to receive ball on sideline close to corner
  • D3 makes curved run to attack right side of opponents goal

Player A1 gets ball and:
  • A1 shoots
  • A1 passes to A4 for shot
  • A1 passes to A3 for shot
