Depth Perception at Home Exercise

A couple common household items are used to do some very basic, let's get started depth perception exercises. Find any or all of the following items:
  • Ink pen with cap,
  • Straw and either small pebbles, small peas, BB's or small gravel, and/or
  • Medium or large needle and thread.

Hold the pen in your hand at arms length and using you other hand try to put the cap on the pen:
  • With pen pointing straight up and cap going over the top,
  • With pen pointed straight down and cap being put on from the bottom,
  • With pen pointing right and cap being put on with right hand,
  • With pen pointing left and cap being put on with the left hand,
  • With pen pointing at your eyes and putting the cap over the point.

Hole the straw at arms length in a vertical (up/down) position. Drop BB or small pebbles, peas of gravel in it.

At arms length hold the needle:
  • so you can see the eye of the needle and try to thread it,
  • so you can't see the eye and try to thread it from the right side,
  • so you can's see the eye and try to thread it from the left side,
  • so you can't see the eye and try to thread it from above, and
  • so you can't see the eye and try to thread it from below.
