Acceleration in Game Traffic
Player should always warm-up before practicing acceleration.
Acceleration In Traffic - Crossover Exercises In soccer games the referee, your teammates and your opponents will also be moving in many different directions. So acceleration exercises for soccer must also teach players to accelerate on a crowded game field without running into others. In this exercise two lines of accelerating players are in and "X" pattern (see animation below) with players having to use their vision and decision making not to run into each other. Setup has 3, 4 or 5 players per line as in the Basic Acceleration Exercise. Set up each two lines in an "X" pattern. Have as many "X" patterns as are required for the number of players at practice. Video Taping After a couple sessions have a volunteer or assistant video tape this exercise and view the video looking for players who make judgement errors or are slow to make decisions in this exercise. A study of referees by Philadelphia optometrist, Dr. Arthur Seiderman, author of "The Athletic Eye" on vision training for professional and Olympic athletes, showed 30% of referees studied had vision problems with depth perception and spatial localization. A problem that can usually be corrected by vision training by a developmental optometrist (a Doctor of Optometry who specializes in vision training). Many students and athletes also have problems with depth perception and spatial localization that can be corrected with vision training. If an athlete seems to have a problem in judgement when individuals or objects are moving ask if they are having problems in school with changes in focus between books, white boards, screens, blackboards, etc. If they are most insurance policies cover developmental vision screening and training. One of the authors children had this problem and for several years the school wanted to hold them back a grade. After vision training they graduated high school as an honor roll student. |
